Targeted Intraoperative Radiotherapy: TARGiT Trial

TARGiT is an international, randomised clinical trial comparing targeted intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) delivered with the INTRABEAM system with conventional external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for the treatment of early breast cancer. The primary objective is to evaluate whether a single, localised fraction of radiotherapy is equivalent to standard external beam radiotherapy after breast conserving surgery in women with early stage breast cancer in terms of local recurrence. The patient recruitment goal of 2,200 trial participants has been reached and initial results are expected to be presented in the coming months.
