Official opening of radiotherapy unit at City Hospital

Posted on Jan 25, 2012

Peterborough City Hospital's state-of-the-art radiotherapy unit will be officially opened on Thursday 26 January 2012. The unit began treating patients in May last year and provided a new service to patients in Greater Peterborough.

“So far, we’ve seen approximately 350 patients in the radiotherapy unit” said Jane Head, Head of Radiotherapy. “That just goes to show how valuable radiotherapy is in the area – there was a great demand for the service to be provided locally and we are very proud to have been able to give it to our patients.” The radiotherapy unit is located within a dedicated oncology unit at the City Hospital in Bretton. Patients requiring radiotherapy for breast, prostate, lung and other cancer sites can now receive their treatment closer to home, rather than having to travel to hospitals further afield like Cambridge and Leicester.
