CIVCO C-Qual Breastboards at Christie NHS foundation

Oncology Systems Limited (OSL) has recently supplied an additional 15 CIVCO C-Qual Breastboards to the Christie NHS Foundation Trust (The Christie). OSL provided all the CIVCO patient positioning accessories for the first Christie radiotherapy satellite at Oldham, and the total number of C-Qual's in use at the Trust will soon reach 22, with the opening of the second satellite in Salford in 2011.

The Christie purchased four breastboards in Spring 2010 to equip its new £17million radiotherapy centre in Oldham, which was opened last year to deliver treatment closer to people's homes. Fifteen of the breastboards will be used at The Christie's main south Manchester site, and a further three at the Trust's second satellite radiotherapy centre in Salford, which will open in Summer 2011.

Stuart Baldwin, OSL Sales Director said: "The C-Qual Breastboard is very popular with clinicians because of its ergonomic, robust design and it gives the staff confidence when they are setting patients up day after day. It has many benefits in relation to the treatment received and is also very comfortable, leading to a better patient experience".

"We are extremely pleased with this record order for C-Qual Breastboards from such a high profile radiotherapy centre. The Christie has chosen high quality products for its patients and we look forward to being of further service to them in the future."

Libby Mills, Principal Radiographer at The Christie said: "We initially chose the C-Qual Breastboards as they provide comfortable support, excellent immobilisation, accuracy and reproducibility. The new breastboards left us with a mismatch between those used at Oldham to those used at our main site in south Manchester."

"It is essential for operational purposes that all the linacs and pre-treatment equipment across our network are equipped with identicial, high quality breastboards. Therefore we placed this additional order for our main Christie site in south Manchester and for the new radiotherapy centre in Salford, for when it opens later this year."

The C-Qual's advanced features bring new efficiencies to setup and treatment. The Sure-Set angulation support provides quick, secure elevation, while the C-Qual's ergonomic design delivers a new level of patient comfort. The low-attenuating properties of the C-Qual provides a homogeneous treatment zone, ideal for the imaging demands of IGRT.
